I believe everyone should play sports when they're younger - it gives you grit. It helps you learn how to get through hard situations, co-exist with assholes, understand them and recruit them to your point of view.
It also allows you to go through physical pain, in the UK I had to play rugby in -1C conditions. I was a small kid, played wing, getting flattened by a massive 13 year old in the freezing cold definitely toughened me up. I could barely feel my hands or my face as it got flattened in a tackle. But I learned how to cope with some of the worst physical situations I had been in up to that point. Now I thrive in the cold, go surfing in winter, do cold dips, climb mountains with little gear.
Learning how to play sports I hated as a kid allowed me to mentally wade through the thoughts that didn't matter like "ugh, I'm too tired for this", "ugh it's too cold" or "too hot" or whatever I feel like complaining about physically. Instead it allows me to focus on the beautiful scenery, the amazing people or the delicious food at hand.
The moral of this story is to go and do stuff you find uncomfortable for the sake of learning more about yourself. It will toughen you up and push you out of your comfortz zone, one day you will look back and think your old self would've never even considered doing any of this! You'll have come a long long way ...
